Greensburg, KYAfter the American Revolution, John Glover was granted 193 acres by the American government - in what was then Virginia. When other settlers came into the same area, they settled near each other for safety and "Glover's Station" was born. It wasn't until 1792 that Green County was established. The newly formed Commonwealth took parts of Lincoln County and parts of Nelson County to form a county in honor of Revolutionary War Hero, MAJ. GEN. Nathanael Greene. Green County was established and Glover's Station became known as Greensburg. Today, no factories pollute the air, no major highways are immediately accessible, and there are relatively few things to do to the untrained eye. However, for those who know the people and the places, there is an abundance of places to see - and more things to do than you can shake a stick at. There is one difference - one defining attribute that separates Greensburg and Kentucky from other parts of the world: We do things nice and slow here. . . like enjoy a cold Ski or Double Cola; a drive in movie at the Skyline; a fishing trip on the Green River; or a picnic at American Legion Park. |
THE AUTHOR |
My nom de plum is B. Reid.
Suffice it to say that I have lived here most of my life. I am the fourth generation of my family to live in Green County, Kentucky. I grew up here, left for a time, and came back. Now, I am married and have two dogs (no kids yet). I like baseball and frito pie and floating the Green River. My degree is in History, so most blog posts will be concerned with the history of Green County and historic items and topics. I also like to be outside, so I'll document adventurous things to do too. I have hobbies. I like woodworking and recreational sports. My wife bakes. I'll probably post some how-to's and maybe even some items for sale. If you want to get in touch with me, please comment on a particular blog. I'll monitor the comments and write a blog on a topic you suggest . . or answer your questions . . or clear up information . . . whatever. My writing style may not always follow the standard rules for grammar and proper punctuation. This is written in my spare time and for fun - so suck eggs if you don't like it! Blogs are chiefly for spending time constructively - I'm spending my time researching and writing (things I like to do) . . . maybe your thing is reading and learning something you didn't know before. Either way, we're not wasting time. My hope is that this blog will be a conversation starter or a start to your own adventures in your back yard. Thanks for reading. I hope you enjoy. |
